Spotlight -- Sarpy County Democrats Office Opening
It’s historic! Saturday, August 22 the Sarpy County Democrats officially
opened their first-ever office in the predominately Republican county.
County Chair Carol Blood, a volunteer member of the Olde
Towne Development Committee, envisioned the possible and
made it happen. She secured the space and the necessary
electrical work.
When the party faithful gathered at the site July 26 only
volunteers Charlene Ligon, office manager, and George
Lippert, construction manager, believed an opening date of
August 22 was possible. Charlene was leaving town the
following day and the Sarpy County Fair was fast
approaching.
The transformation appeared magical due to volunteer labor
of a few dedicated retirees, including Lanny Munson from
Douglas County.  The dry wall was hung—we had to hire
taping and mudding; the ceiling tile was replaced.  During
these labor intensive days, Charlene was out scouting for
carpeting, paint, and furnishings.
Painting day brought Phyllis Brill, her son John Jeanetta,
daughter-in-law Mary, their three sons and their exchange
student as well as Carol Casey, Executive Director,
Douglas County Democrats and the usual trio. The job
was done by early afternoon.
Ron Christensen helped Charlene chip away the old
flooring—a very difficult job, the carpet was laid and George
placed the base shoe.
The fun contribution for me was the design
of the signage which George helped to assemble and later
hung.
An amazing cleaning crew, Mary Kelly, Al Marcault, Gary and
Susan Tafini, led by Charlene, not only polished the furnishings--mostly
donated by the NDP--but attempted to polish up the hallway.  This was done
on Thursday evening, August 20, the final sprucing up before the open house.
Behind the scenes, committed volunteers were seeking financial contributions
to cover the limited expenses. The generosity of family, friends, interested
businesses, elected officials and supportive citizens made it possible, not to
mention the countless volunteer hours.
The work goes on.  Charlene has been at the office daily since its opening,
welcoming volunteers and assembling and integrating the phone and
computer systems.
The ongoing success of this effort, designed to recruit and elect credible
officials up and down the ticket in 2010, is now the responsibility of all Sarpy
County Democrats.
Get your name on the schedule to volunteer by calling 402-

Bellevue 68005.  Current hours of operation are 9:00A.M. to
1:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.
